The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 2003 with the inception of the institute to cater to undergraduate education in the field of mechanical engineering. It aims to produce quality professionals in mechanical engineering to compete globally and excel by carrying out basic and applied research in emerging areas by forgoing strong industry institute interaction
Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical system. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.
The engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, material science, strength of materials. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like product lifecycle management to design and analyses manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, aircraft, robotics, weapons and others.
